Brian Dickinson has been the recipient of two Juno Awards, a Jazz Report Award and the Prix de Jazz du Montreal. He has toured North America and the far east extensively and is very active in Toronto jazz venues, performing with the likes of Pat LaBarbera, Kenny Wheeler, Jerry Bergonzi, Kirk MacDonald, Randy Brecker, Sonny Fortune and Lee Konitz.
He is head of the keyboard department at Humber College, is a graduate of the Humber Music Program, and holds a master’s degree from the New England Conservatory (Boston). In addition, he has studied with Richie Beirach, Andy Laverne and Paul Bley. As a leader, Brian has released six recordings including the Juno Award winning “In Transition”. His latest releases include “The Glenn Gould Sessions” (a duo setting with Lee Konitz, Philology Records) and “Soul Mission” (a quartet setting featuring saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi, Elan Records). He can be heard as a sideman on many Canadian jazz recordings with artists such as Pat LaBarbera, Kirk MacDonald, Kieran Overs, Mike Murley, and Roy Patterson.
Dickinson’s duo CD with Ted Quinlan entitled “around the bend” is being released on Addo Records in October, 2010. Future releases on Addo include Brian’s quartet record featuring saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi.
