The word "Addo" is Latin and means to "give; bring; place; inspire".
Addo Records is a new Canadian music label dedicated to partnerships with talented composers and performers of progressive, improvisational music in the jazz tradition.
In October of 2009, Steve Bellamy launched Addo Records with the hope of creating a catalogue of excellent music that would inspire listeners and fellow musicians. The challenge was to create a business model that would not only survive, but would be fair and helpful to the artists that joined the label without compromising the quality of their music or the audio production.
The resulting relationship is based on a simple and fair formula where the artist and label enter into a partnership to share equally the costs and profits from making a recording. When you purchase music from Addo, half of the sale price goes drectly to the artist who created the music. The other half goes directly into the production of new recordings.
This model invites the listener to become an active part of the production process by directly supporting the artist and the production of new music. In return, the artists are giving even more of their time through music and special video content for the listener. There is no profit to speak of - the sales of the music only cover part of the costs to produce the music. The outcome of this partnership is the creation of a catalogue of excellent recorded music that might not otherwise be recorded.
These are world-class artists creating music that is rich in creativity and form. It is not temporary or based on passing trends. This is fine art for the ears - Enjoy!
